Renovations & Remodeling
Renovating Burlington's older housing stock, with the surprises behind old walls planned for, not discovered.

Serving Burlington, Vermont
Burlington has some of the oldest and best-built housing stock in the state, and working on it takes a contractor who knows what's behind those walls. I'm Tim Chila, and I've spent over 50 years working on Vermont homes, from the Hill Section to the New North End.
What We Do
Burlington is a city of old houses, and that's the whole job here. The Victorians and early-1900s homes through the Hill Section and the Old North End were built by people who knew what they were doing, with plaster walls, real framing lumber, and joinery you don't see anymore. They're worth keeping right.
They also come with what a century brings: knob-and-tube era wiring that's been added to a dozen times, settled framing, layers of paint over original trim, and floor plans built for a way of living nobody has now. Opening up a wall in a Burlington home usually finds something. After 50 years we know how to read a house before we start, so what we find is planned for rather than a shock to your budget.
Plenty of these homes have also been carved into apartments over the years, which brings its own set of problems when someone wants to bring one back to a single family home. Whether it's a full renovation, a kitchen, a bathroom, or a repair that's been waiting, you get an honest estimate up front and work that respects the house.

Why Tradecraft VT
Burlington's Victorians and early-1900s homes hide a century of changes. Fifty years of opening them up means we anticipate what's in there instead of being surprised by it.
New work matched to old, so a repair or renovation looks like it belongs. That matters more in Burlington than almost anywhere else in the county.
